WIP.....Beast 09

30 Dec 12

This is a figure I received for my birthday back in May.  He’s been sitting on the shelf for many months as I talk myself into painting him.  The main issue here is that he’s such a great figure that I wanted to make sure I did him justice.

To start off every figure it’s good to have a finished concept in mind.  For my Khador army this concept revolves around the 5th Border Legion who has been in the field for many months and is now fighting in the winter against all comers.  I generally paint my Khador legions using a mixture of red and Russian uniform green.  Additionally, I weather the warjacks so it looks like they have been involved in many months of campaigning.   Lastly I add snow effects to the bases to round out the theme.

WIP.......

27 Dec 12
Hey Everyone.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!  I’ve got the day off of work and wanted to make a quick post before I hit the painting table.
The first pic I have is my son’s Christmas present.  The Judicator is actually a rather intimidating model to even think about painting.   I picked up this model from Discount Games Inc.  These guys are great, and they have a huge range of Warmachine and Hordes at very reasonable prices.  Additionally, their shipping is the quickest I’ve  ever seen when it comes to online game stores.  Check them out at the link above or head over to EBay where they also have a store.

A Begining Part 2

Part 2
Ok, I’ve got the basic blog design down and I’m still fiddling with the bits but I’ll get it over time.
If there is actually anyone out there who reads I could use some help.   I’d love to do a banner for the blog but I have no idea how.  If anyone out there has some advice or skills please let me know.  Thanks!

To truly start this blog off right, I thought I’d put a few pictures out of my award winning Lord of the Rings dwarf army.  That’s right I said award winning.  Twice units from this army have won tournament painting awards.  I absolutely love this army and the paint job came out great.  These picutures are a bit dated and don’t do them enough justice.

A Begining.........

My goodness…Not another painting blog.  Well yes, why not?
I don’t consider myself a really great painter.  I started painting and modeling about 30 years ago.  My gaming days started out like many of us with the old Advanced D&D red box and eventually graduated to Battletech and Warhammer.  I still love gaming, but the fact is that these days I mainly paint for the fun and stress relief.
So why start a painting blog?  Like many of you out there I suffer from miniature ADHD and have a vast collection of unpainted minis.  The goal of this blog is to not only paint the models that I and my son game with, but to also start digging into the bottomless well that is my unpainted figure box.
Additionally, I want a bit of a safe haven for my thoughts on a painting and model building.  I’d use the forums for several of the games I play, but they are generally dedicated to a brand and I want to keep all my ramblings in one spot.  Cool-mini-or-Not is always an option, but the site seems to be filled with painting snobs who provide just as many snarky comments as helpful one.
Before anyone gets angry about that last comment just let me say that I actually love Cool-mini-or-Not and troll over there often for inspiration and ideas.  I also make frequent use of their online store.  Speaking of which….Honey if you decide to read this, please don’t go looking at the checking account and wonder about the $100 order from Cool-mini-or-Not.
So here is what I currently have in my queue to paint:
  1. Warmachine Khador army
  2. Warmachine Menoth army
  3. FOW Germans (mid war)
  4. SAGA Vikings (Historicals)
  5. And a few odds and ends…..
A quick note on the name of this blog.  When I was in grad school, one of our major projects was to design a company from scratch.  I decided design a miniature and games company and named it old Anvil Games.  Should I ever win the lottery, I’ll make this company a reality.
Ok so this is the beginning.  Over the next week I hope to start this thing off in earnest with Beast 09.  Check back soon………
