Ok, time to start work on the actual Beast 09
model. This model is in fact, a beast to
put together (yes pun was intended). To start off with, the Beast model is still a metal miniature. No plastic update that I have seen in it's near future. Normally I
prefer painting and modeling metal over plastic but in Privateer Press’s case,
warjacks are tough models to get looking right.
After some extensive work with my files, I was able
to smooth out most of the mold lines.
Now came the hard part which was fitting the major pieces of the model
together and then ensuring no seems or gaps are evident. As you can see from the pictures below, a lot
of work went into covering up the gaps.
I used a small amount of green stuff the help fill the gap, the smoothed
it out using liquid green stuff. I
really like using the liquid green stuff because I can sand and file it down to
get a smooth look in the end.
Normally I paint my larger models in sections to
help the maximum the detail of painting throughout the model. Its great if you have a super paint job on
the armor, but if you weren’t able to get good coverage of the exo-skeleton
then the armor job is for naught.
I’ve also decided to do a little conversion work on
this model. Nothing fancy, but I’m
going to add back banners to the Beast to give him a much more commanding presence
on the field. I ordered a couple of
Skorne and Khador banner polls from the Privateer Press bits shop. I removed the Skorne symbol from the top of
their banners and replaced it with the Khador symbol. Very simple conversions often go a lot
further than more complicated ones. The
below banners should fit great on the model when I’m done.
After everything was filed and test fitted, I then primed
the whole model black.
Next week we’ll start painting the model in
earnest.
